Select two companies that are listed on any stock exchange (preferably the same one). You
will examine different aspects related to the strategies of the two companies.
Criteria for selection of the two companies.
1. Each company must have at least two businesses (so corporate strategy can be studied)
a. One of the major business of the company should be in the global tissue industry. Check the
‘segment information” section of the company Annual Report for past three years to
ensure: i) segments are based on products not geography, and ii) tissues are listed as
an important product in one of the segments.
b. Each company must operate in more than one country (so global strategy can be studied)
c. The two companies must be competitors in the global tissue industry through one of their
businesses.
*Check the annual reports of the company for information on the above items.
Collect information about the two companies from multiple sources such as news articles,
annual reports, consumer magazines, and business articles (going well beyond the
company website) for at least three years.
Use the information collected, and apply the concepts learnt in this course.
Each group will analyze and compare the two companies as follows:
Each member, one of the following (based on group size)
1. Corporate Strategy of Company 1
2. Corporate Strategy of Company 2
3. Business strategy of Company 1
4. Business strategy of Company 2
5. Global strategy of Company 1
6. Global strategy of Company 2
7. Strategy Implementation – briefly – in both companies
