Media Current Event Journals (3 separate times, 270 points)

There are three media industry sections (i.e., print, electronic, and new media) covered in Week 3 – Week
6. For each event journal, students will choose one media industry at their own interest in each section
and write a one-two page informative essay (900 words in maximum):
I. Print Media (choose from Book, Newspaper, or Magazine Industries) – Due 6/3
II. Electronic Media (choose from Recording, Radio, Movie, or Television Industries) – Due 6/16
III. New Media (Choose from Social Media or Video Games Industries) – Due 6/21
In each essay, students will first get to know this industry via the chapter and online search; then report a
current case/event/issue/news/trend/social debate about the selected media.
For instance, if you select social media for the New Media section, first you will read through
Chapter 6, and search online/news about this industry. You may talk about the trending apps this
year, or the current social event related to social media; you can also talk about a related
technological revolution that you watched from news stories. If you select the TV industry for
electronic media, you may write about a particular TV program that’s on-air; you may also talk
about social activity, issue and other important things that occurred this year.
The purpose of this assignment is to encourage you to explore the mass media industries and think
critically about the mass media and social cultures outside the class. All essays must be typed, double-
spaced and submitted on Canvas “Assignments” on time.
You must address the following components in the essay:
1. What’s the ongoing case (or event, issue, news, trend, social debate) in this industry or related to
this industry? Although there are literally hundreds of topics to choose from, please focus on one
or two.
2. The significance of this case: Why is this case worth to report in your event journal?
3. Make the connection between the case and our readings/activities.
4. At the end of the journal, list the links (at least three links) for further information about this case.
Make sure your links are from credible sources.
