Museum search

For this second museum search students will visit an online image collection through
Artstor.org. Please make sure you are only using images from the designated collection. Be
aware that you can zoom in on each of the images and view their related data simply by
clicking on the image.
To complete this assignment follow these steps:
A. Download and save the Museum Search 2 Assignment Template to your computer. The
template is attached to the Museum Search 2 assignment item. You will use the saved
template to type in the responses and information required for sections B through D
below.
B. In your own words* provide an explanation of the stylistic characteristics associated with
each of the following artistic movements (there are several key characteristics for each;
you are expected to reference them all):
i. Rococo
ii. Italian Renaissance
iii. Flemish Painting (Northern Renaissance)
iv. Mannerism
v. Baroque
C. Once you have selected your five works of art from the Artstor Image Group you need to
provide the following for each:
i. Artist’s Name (if listed as unknown, state unknown)
ii. Title of art work (this should be italicized)
iii. Date of art work (use artists’ birth/death dates if unavailable)
iv. Material(s)/Medium(s)
v. Detailed and descriptive paragraph that specifically demonstrates how the
stylistic characteristics are present in the selected work of art (see demonstration
below).
D. Write a full conclusion paragraph based upon our studies of the Renaissance. Support
your perspectives with concepts, imagery, and artists we have learned about in this unit.
Choose two of the following questions to explore in your conclusion:
i. Do certain paintings inspire a progressive outlook? This progressive mindset can
relate to the growth of technology and sciences, or humanism and human rights.
ii. Do you think the spirit of the Renaissance is important today, if so how?
iii. What do you feel is the public’s appreciation of this historical period and how do
your opinions now echo that, or react against those ideas?
iv. Have you gained a deeper insight into the period, how so? What is something
new you learned or added to your world view?
