Reflective Commentary

Assignment 3: Reflective Commentary due in week 23
 The reflective Commentary needs to be submitted using Turnitin (in Weblearn) before 3pm
on Tuesday, 13 July 2021
• The submission must contain between 1500 and 2000 words
Learning Outcomes (LO):
LO1: demonstrate a wide range of academic skills, including time management, academic reading
and writing, note making, academic integrity, finding resources.
LO3: reflect on your learning journey including your personal development of academic skills.
Feedback on learning activities including learning strengths and weakness and academic goals will
feed into a reflective commentary as the final assessment which assesses both LO1 and LO3.
The task:
1. Complete the portfolio tasks throughout the year – A set of exercises, which focus upon
different skills essential for success in your course. To keep track of your progress, you may
wish to keep an ongoing reflective diary (e.g. making weekly entries into your portfolio on
WebLearn). In this you should record your main university experiences and your feelings about
them. By the end of the year we need evidence you have completed all the tasks.
This means
Either you completed all the tasks in your portfolio on WebLearn
Or you will include the completed tasks with your reflective writing commentary when this is
handed in. You can find the list of tasks on WebLearn (see ‘Your Portfolio’ or ‘Assessment
Details’).
2. Write the reflective commentary – A reflection on your performance during the year in
these tasks, which documents your personal development and should be 1,500 – 2,000 words.
A suitable reflective model in three parts should be used as follows:
a. What – Evaluate what you have learned. What for you have been the major
challenges, setbacks, successes and opportunities?
b. So What – consider the feedback (formal and informal) you have received on
your learning from different sources e.g. the tasks, lectures, seminars,
discussions, presentations and team work and the knowledge and theories in
the core textbooks.
c. What’s Next Then recognise what still needs to be learned/developed and
include a plan to achieve this. Be as specific as you are able about the nature of
activities you intend to undertake and the support you will seek. You should 2
ensure that you refer to appropriate sources (using the Harvard system)
and provide a reference list.
3. Deliver a 3 minute individual presentation in week 22 for feedback purposes. In this
feedback session your tutor will listen to you when you are talking about your reflective
commentary. You can simply describe your chosen structure or give some examples of
academic skills you developed. Individual session will be arranged with your tutor to meet via
Collaborate.
The criteria for marking your reflective commentary include:
 Demonstrates understanding of self as a learner in a comprehensive, analytical and
reflective account in demonstrating a wide range of skills (including academic reading and
writing, academic integrity and finding resources)
 Conceptualises theoretical background
 Portfolio tasks completed
 SMART goals incorporated
