Conversion and Adaption Project

The final submission will incorporate an appropriate mix of developmental
drawings in various media, models, etc. with at least 2 sketch proposals each for
Part 1 a full set of detailed drawings expected for Part 2 of the assignment.
These will be presented to a panel of tutors and your fellow students. Progress
meetings and formative assessments will be held as necessary with two marked
presentations as timetabled.
You must treat these presentations and opportunities for assessment in a
professional manner.
Consideration should be given to a whole-lifecycle understanding of the
selection and application of key elements of the building. Questions you may
want to cover could include:

 Why have you specified them and what are the construction implications;
 What are the related maintenance issues;
 What are the implications of these choices on the life of the building, its
use etc.?
This is not an exhaustive list as each and every building presentation will be
different and, depending on the way you integrate new elements with the old.
With regards the submission of the work for assessment:
 You will present your scheme through an appropriate online platform. A
submission of the materials produced will be uploaded to Moodle.
 Should file size or formats be problematic, please upload a pdf of your
presentation to Moodle, and submit the rest of your work via a Cloud
application.
Hints and tips
Minimum Expectations:
As a minimum (for the Mid Point Assessment; worth 25%):
 A complete set of plans, elevations, a site plan and an indicative section
derived from the drawings and survey to an appropriate scale;
 A volumetric model, physical or CAD based of the existing set of
buildings;
 At least 2 non-CAD sketch proposals for selection;
 Consideration of material choices, structural changes etc. against an
indication of construction implications and cost factors between each
proposal;
 Evidence of how to sensitively deal with a structure with a history for a
particular location.
 Ensure sustainability guides your solutions to this scheme.
