Organization and Creating Indicators to Measure

According to Araújo et al. (2013), Sustainability is a concept that considers how an organization functions in an ecological, economic and socio-economic environment to create lasting value (Araújo et al., 2013). The premise is based on Sustainability which supports lifespan for companies through the development of such initiatives. Trade Arabia reports that Oman has formally begun its newly reformed waste-water services sector activities. The restructuring process has led to the establishment of two Nama Group companies with government-owned energy and water supplies and services suppliers belonging to the Sultanate’s sovereign wealth fund Oman Investment Authority. The Oman Water and Wastewater Companys, the sole distributor of water solutions throughout Oman, apart from the Governorate Dhofar, the single entity accountable for waste-water management, have been formed through the merger of the longtime Water Public Authority. The OWWSC supports and enables ‘Oman Vision 2040’ that recognizes that conventional resource management calls for balancing development needs and sustainable environment and includes water-efficiency structural reforms, expanding sanitation services, and using contemporary waste-water processing technology (Araújo et al., 2013).

The main objective of the dissertation is to evaluate Oman’s readiness for Sustainability in its water supply department by Oman’s Water & Wastewater Services Company (OWWSC). the first  Objective is to Expert opinion consensus within the organization that will provide the greatest strategy to achieve sustainable development (Al Mawli et al., 2017, page 105156). The second objective is to identify how the organization should start to create the relevant indicators. The third objective is to collect data from summarizing the existing capabilities of the organization. It also comprises the skills, facilitators, and impediments of the company. The final objective is to build a quantifiable framework to monitor sustainability implementation.

Chapter 3: Research Methodology and Data

The methodology of research under the Delphi procedure is covered in this chapter. In the study, which included observation as a technique for knowledge collection, logical positivism was also applied. Finally in this section, the limitations and dangers, for instance Covid-19, faced during the reseach will also be provided.

3-2 Research Methodology

The research is dominated by the Delphi procedure qualitative method. The procedure is employed because examining a panel of specialists arrives at a group opinion or decision. Each round, the experts change their answer to how they understand the “group reaction” they have received. The eventual result is intended to be a real agreement on the group’s opinion (Fellows & Liu 2015, par 4). In the study, the leader will request all participants, 12 in number, to submit anonymous prediction estimates using the questionnaires. The results are tabulated, and the results are returned to the participants, telling them how far there are general adverse effects. The results will go through stages until there is a universal consensus.

In the research, which included observation as a technique for knowledge collection, logical positivism was also applied. The participants were required to understand the research question, “Investigation of the willingness to embrace sustainability within the Water Projects department of OWWSC, utilizing logical positivism.” Therefore, this investigation sought causes for the OWWSC in the Water Department of Oman to add Sustainability.

3-3 The Research Aim

The purpose of the research is to assess OWWSC readiness to adopt Sustainability through its delivery department of the Water Project. The research issue, therefore, is “how and when will OWWSC adopt sustainability?”

The initial results verified the research objective to gain thoughts and perceptions on the subject from interviewers within the organization (Chalmers & Armour, 2019, par 4). The procedure was aimed to provide insights into the department’s and its need for Sustainability.

Summary assessment of the results and literature research were used to assess evidence for each suggestion. Delphi’s approach asked each of the test participants to indicate how they rated the recommendation. The panel had a measuring scale for this purpose which was used to determine the force of the assessment of the recommendation. The assessment was between 10 and 0, whereby 10 resulted in a strong rating while 0 resulted in a weak rating. The results from the 12bparticipants were noted (Fellows & Liu 2015, par 7). The recordings were made which could determine the mean and standard deviation. As the recording results are meaningful and used to form conclusions, the measurement tool used was legitimate.

The approach of implementing sustainable development and integration was determined in round one of the surveys. When carrying out a rich and dynamic interview, ideas and possibly new ways were generated effectively. Interviews were more productive because they were clear.

A comprehensive literature review was used for the semi-structured Round One questionnaire. They presented the participants with recognized literary potential and determined the preferable way of introducing PDD sustainability and its rationale. In round two of the results, the 12 participants received the preliminary results, which ranked the submitted approaches. There is a risk of discord with the conclusions when it becomes vital to talk with the participants.

3-5 Objective (2): Tailored Sustainable Indicators

The outcome of goal (1) paved the path for the rest of the study procedure in this stage. The way of introducing Sustainability in the organization, Objective 2, depended upon the census agreement of the expert participants. A list of indicators appropriate for the chosen approach has been developed, employing a critical assessment of the literature on the appropriate method. During the second round of the questionnaire, these results were presented to the same respondents. Thus, a more targeted indication was generated for the organization to adapt for the initial implementation.

3-6 Objective (3): Existing Capabilities to implement Sustainability

The development of the sustainable indicator was presented in round 3 of the questionnaire. The method developed a list of capabilities and indicator enablers and defined them as existing or necessary. To determine if the company was ready for sustainability, the 12 participants had to answer “Yes” or “No” based on the 0 to 10 scale.

3-5 Objective (4): Measuring the Indicators for Implementing Sustainability

The Sustainability Framework is a tool for organizing sustainability thinking and informing planning, administration, and assessment of activities to improve and maintain the best outcomes at the population level. Project personnel and local stakeholders will be responsible for the SF. The framework for implementing sustainable practices and the views of a supply chain has been adopted by the company.

3-6 Data Analysis 

Data were evaluated utilizing a qualitative approach to obtain non-numerical study material, which researchers and participants perceive. Therefore, it was better to analyze the results in descriptive terms. The views were sorted, categorized, and classified. The examination of the results of objective (1) was the list of possibilities for sustainable development. The most popular technique rationale was descriptive and explained participants’ common viewpoints. The result of round two of the questionnaire was to develop a list of Sustainability Measures in the structured questionnaire. To finish the logic, the list of indicators was compared to other rated indicators in literature if it influenced other existing criteria such as departmental maturity and current capacity or policies. Objective 3 Kaleidoscope utilized to identify the organization’s capability to adopt sustainable indicators. Each indicator was associated with the capability to achieve implementation that is exiting or must be obtained at that stage.

3-8 Research Participants

The questionnaire format that incorporated a series of standardized questions and fixed schemes specified the exact formulation and sequence of the questions and showed 10 yes from all 12 participants. In addition to the background group on best practices and sustainability practice in the infrastructure sector, the participants were told about research practice as their qualifications needed them to have the knowledge and competence of the project delivery department. A modest number of participants have been used because the alternative method of surveying a larger group does not focus on research.

The process involved the participation of the same individuals, twelve participants, in various phases of research, transcribed interviews, and content analysis (French et al., 2017, page 5). The interview framework and questions are meant to address the subject and to give the interactive environment consistently.
