Analysis and Synthesis
1. Perform an analysis of the decision(s) and decision-making process using the material studied
in this course. Avoid framing your analysis in terms of personal opinion or informal ideas
about decision making. You should think broadly about the application of the course material
as you consider and analyze what you learned during your interviews. Once you have done
this, select a smaller set of three of the main course concepts that best provide insight into the
decision or set of related decisions you are examining in your project. Conduct a more in-depth
analysis and synthesis using the three main course concepts you have selected. The analysis
and synthesis you present in your paper should be focused on the three main course concepts
that you have selected. Your analysis and synthesis should be focused on what went right and
what went wrong in the decision-making process and should be framed in terms of the three course concepts you have selected. Your analysis should be in-depth, thoughtful, and insightful
and demonstrate that you have mastered the course material.
2. Your analysis should then focus on how the decision(s) and decision-making process could
have been improved. Formulate two recommendations for the future that would be useful for
the members of the organization you are studying or members of a similar organization. Apply
the course material to the formulation of your recommendations rather than relying on personal
opinion or informal ideas about decision making. Your recommendations should be thoughtful
and insightful and should be formulated in a way that reflects an in-depth mastery of the course
material.
Deliverable
A. Paper. The deliverable of this project is a paper.
1. Your paper should describe the organizational setting and context of your study. The organizational
setting, context of the study, decision(s), and decision-making process should be described in
enough detail to make your analysis and synthesis understandable.
2. Your paper should cover your analysis and recommendations in detail.
3. Your paper should include your interview questions for each interviewee and notes about the
responses given in your interviews as an appendix to the paper.
4. There is no need to consult outside resources (other than the material assigned in the course). There
is no need to explain the material covered in the class in your paper (e.g., if a term is defined in the
course material you do not need to define it in your paper). All of the material in your paper should
be original (i.e., the analysis is created by you rather than coming from another source), but please
be conscious of avoiding plagiarism if you refer to an idea or use a small amount of text from
another source.
5. Your paper should be five to six pages of double-spaced text (Times New Roman, 11 point text)
excluding the title page, interview questions, and notes about responses given in your interviews.
6. Your paper should be written in standard English and should be written in a concise, clear,
professional, and polished style. Your text should be easy to understand and enjoyable for the
reader. Additionally your text should not confuse your reader or your leave your reader with
questions about the decision and organization you selected, your analysis, or your
recommendations. You will need to avoid repeating ideas in your paper in order to provide an indepth, thoughtful, and insightful analysis in five to six pages of text.
7. Your paper should use section headers to help the reader follow the organization of your work
