Step one – What’s your idea? How did you come up with it? Why is it important? Provide research to support why it’s a good idea. Have other companies implemented it? How have they benefited, etc.? What struggles have they had to get the plan implemented?

Step two – What’s your general plan to get the company on board?How will you convince your employer or future employer to make changes in the workplace to combat the issue or make the change (dedicate time and/or money)? What specific changes are you requesting? What person of power in the company will you speak to first? Management will be reluctant to dedicate time/money likely because they are busy and want to save the company money. You will need to start a grassroots movement with other employees, etc.How are you going to establish credibility for yourself when presenting this topic to others? How are you going to establish “common ground” with others (fellow employees, suppliers, customers, etc.) related to this issue? If the boss says no to your idea, what will be your next step?

Step three – How will you specifically implement your plan in detail? What’s “plan b, c, etc.” if the boss says no to your idea, what will be your next step?

Step four – What’s next? Assume the boss accepted a certain portion of your plan. How would you look to further the cause next year? How could present your idea or garner support to persuade your boss to take it one step further?
