INSTRUCTIONS ON THE ASSIGNMENT

Assume that you run the group. Given word limits, it is not advised that you consider all possible group options. The key to successfully undertaking this component is to clearly state who would be involved in a group approach and note what the group would be for (what issue(s) the group would aim to address). You need to use information provided in the case study to justify why you are choosing to run a particular group, and to explain your reasons for selecting who should participate.

When it comes to group counselling, the assignment asks you to consider what might be some types of groups that could be relevant, given the information pertaining to client issues, life stage, client age(s) etc. Typical types of groups may be things like groups for parents of teenage children; groups designed to assist with gaming addiction etc. In the context of the assignment, ‘groups’ does not mean the family group.

the genogram should be included in the body of the assignment. Word counts do not apply to figures and diagrams, which is what the genogram is. As such, lables associated with the genogram do not contribute to the overall word count.

However, the discussion component of this criteria DOES contribute the the word count. The discussion component is:

“Discuss who you might include for the different modalities and discuss reasons for your decisions, the similarities and differences in establishing therapeutic relationships in couples, family and group counselling. How would you go about engaging more than one person in counselling? How would you engage children or teenagers who might be reluctant to attend family counselling?” [10 marks]
