Introduction

The search strategy will entail different aspects of research where different stakeholders will be engaged to develop insights about the nature of student engagement has and factors that may enhance such engagements in The ABC University – X branch (ABC-X UNIVERSITY). Our project team is allocated to explore different interventions, with this paper focuses on technological solutions. The selected intervention point is to implement technological devices, such as, to develop a formal virtual collaboration e-platform and e-Campus for the students and staff to facilitate student engagement and connection.

Background

The ABC University – X branch (ABC-X UNIVERSITY) is one of the regional higher education centers operated by the ABC University, located at the rural area in XYZ River Region. The context of this research and the REA question is what the elements are to be implemented to enhance student engagement in ABC-X UNIVERSITY. It is speculated that the University leadership is responsible for providing support conducive to the learning environments by fostering favorable conditions to enhancing student engagement and developing student/customer-oriented management (Walter et al., 2020).

A university setting is a community that is diverse in behaviors and there is a need to have a means through which all the behaviors can be incorporated and mitigate chances of conflicts from arising. ABC-X UNIVERSITY students are mostly young adults who should be guided on how to handle different issues effectively and embrace different developments within the learning institution and the external environment. Engagements between different parties enhance cohesion and improve the delivery of services. Further, it can also facilitate the development of different skills and ensure the learners can be fully equipped for their future career development (Kahu, 2013).

The assessment is important in the sense that it will aid the development of insights regarding the selected intervention. The issue of student engagement is not only essential in building a successful institution, but also for the benefits of the society. It is suggested that peer to peer engagements can lead to conflicts which can be avoided through the implementation of the appropriate tools of communication and engagement (Rao, 2020). Technology has been a source of solutions to some problems that have been experienced in businesses and institutions (Mason 2013). Assessing the advantages of the technological application in this context is indispensable in ascertaining its effectiveness in the services delivery of ABC-X UNIVERSITY. Further, the assessment is meant to determine viability and sustainability of the project. Implementation of the intervention requires the use of available evidence to ascertain effectiveness and viability of the intervention (Walatka, 2012). The assessment will impact future research with the implication that there will be additional information and evidence regarding the chosen intervention, and it can be used to foster productive means through which it can be implemented. Studies can be developed based on the data and report gathered in this project for an evidence-based research.

The stakeholder in this assessment composes of different parties include administrators, policy makers, students, administrative staff, teaching staff and the neighboring communities. Researchers can also be concerned in the project as they require ample empirical studies from which they can draw various aspects of the solution to an existing problem, not just happened within ABC-X UNIVERSITY, but the current challenge that higher education is facing in general. Armstrong et al. (2018) suggested that in order to survive in the evolving environment of higher education, universities must seek for change, progress, and evolve. Technological intervention is for the preparation of meeting the demands of the ever-changing business environment, revolutionizing business and economy models, rapid technological advancement, globalization and etc. The hypothesis also explains the current situation that more people are returning to universities to complete graduation certificate or college degrees, whereas online degree is one of the attractive options as it enables flexibility (Armstrong et al., 2018).

Formulating the REA Question

REA Question: What needs to be implemented to develop a strong culture of student engagement and connection for a small campus representing a group of universities in a rural community?

PICOC model

Applying the PICOC model in formulating the search question can promote an analysis of the nature of issues, that facilities which elements should be highlighted, in order to assure the study covers the most important aspects for investigation (Rocha, et al., 2020).  First, the “P”, population, from which data or evidence is collected is one of the key issues. The target population should be from the affected people and this will include some of the stakeholders who will benefit from the implementation of the project. Students, staff, and the neighboring communities will be used in evidence collection.
