Background to the Problem
For many years in nursing education, traditional teaching methods have been central in clinical
nursing settings and the classroom. However, as technology permeates every sector of the
economy, it has also engrossed the nursing student’s introduction of newer instruction methods.
According to Bait et al. (2020), gaming was not part of the learning exercise until recently due to
technology’s influence on education. Gaming in education takes different forms ranging from
card games to tabletops to clickers to role-play to puzzles (Xu, 2016). According to Johnsen et
al. (2018), using advanced technology such as computer-based simulations, personal computers,
and phones is widely accepted by nursing students. Notably, games are readily used both offcampus and on the campus besides clinical settings, making them easily accessible to nursing
students. These novelty effects of gaming have made it a significant area of interest among
researchers.
According to a study by Johnsen et al. (2021), gaming is part of the growing innovative learning
to meet the complex needs of nursing practice in the current world. In this regard, gaming as a
learning tool is an inevitable part of learning in nursing. Besides, Boudadi et al. (2020) argue that
the growing framework for the engagement theory of gaming has increasingly compelled
