Social Justice Research Essay (My Topic is: Student Debt Crisis)

It would be best to write a research essay that will address a specific and current global, national, or regional problem today.

Your purpose is to examine this problem critically by connecting it to critical theories, looking at both sides of the issues involved, researching situations, and researching background and historical information.

Your paper should also have a clear focus that is transparent about your own values and opinions based on subjective experiences.

You will need to address the 5 following areas. You may use section titles if you wish:

Critical Theory
Briefly introduces the subject. States what you are going to talk about and give information on the critical theory’s ideas that your problem addresses. You need to have one quote or outside reading that helps to explain you’re critical theory.

Discussion
Give the situation, occasion, background, and specific details of your problem. You should have a quote here as well that shows your issue from a SPECIFIC viewpoint. Think about essays, articles, or stories that can help illustrate what you say. This is also a good place to talk about the fallacies and bias surrounding your issue!

Thesis & Opposition
Offer your own thesis (arguable claim) and then give the opposition. Even if you choose to write your thesis in its traditional spot (end of the introduction), you’ll still need at least two statements of opposition. Use qualifiers and signal words (can, some, other viewpoints, another idea…)

Original Ideas/Conclusion
Give some solutions or possible solutions. Use personal narratives, subjective understanding to make sure you are transparent with your own bias and experiences. Have a little fun here and really think about the implications your issue or problem has.
