GPS in Natural Resources

For this research paper, you will be writing about the use of GNSS/GPS in the field of
Natural Resources. Pick a specific area of natural resources that you are personally interested in;
it does not have to be related to your major (most if not all of you in the class are in NR Law).
You will need to research how GNSS/GPS is used currently in the realm of natural resources
that you have chosen, and how GNSS/GPS will and might be used in the future. Below you
will find the requirements for the paper and the grading rubric. This paper will be worth 100
points. Due date is 11:59 PM on Friday, May 7, submitted on Blackboard.
Requirements:
1. Minimum 3 pages, 5 maximum
2. 11-point, Times New Roman font, double-spaced, normal (1”) margins
3. APA style
a. Cover page (does not count towards the min/max number of pages)
b. References page (does not count towards the min/max number of pages)
i. Minimum of 3-5 sources, no maximum
c. In-text citations
i. Parentheticals (Author Last Name, Publication Date; these should align
with the sources referenced in your references page)
d. Page numbers (Cover page and References page do not get page numbers)
e. Other elements of APA formatting (see below)

4. Structure
a. Introduction
i. A good introduction should only be one paragraph, maybe two, and should
succinctly introduce the reader to the overall topic of the paper and the
main points that will be discussed in the paper’s body.
b. Body
i. This is the bulk of your paper and where you will address the main points.
Each of your main points should be addressed in at least 3 paragraphs and
include supporting examples.
c. Conclusion
i. A good conclusion should restate the overall topic and main points of the
paper, summarize the paper, and present the conclusion(s) of the points
covered in the body of the paper. This should take one to two paragraphs.
Notes:
• You will find it extremely helpful if you create an outline of your paper before you begin
writing it.
• A good tool for academic research is Google Scholar. It’s Google’s search engine
specifically for finding academic papers, journals, and other research materials.
• Do not use Wikipedia, YouTube, Reddit, or any other similar website as a source.
o Wikipedia, in limited fashion, can be used as a tool for finding other sources.
Wikipedia pages should include sources for their information at the bottom of the
page. Those are sources that you could possibly use for your research. But,
Wikipedia itself should not be used as a source. This is because anyone can edit a
Wikipedia page and thus while the information usually is correct, you cannot be
certain that it is.
