Please I need you to follow all the directions for this paper and slide show (Power Point)
After you decide on a topic, research it- go beyond Wikipedia (however, I can show you how you can use information from Wikipedia as a source). This essay is not meant to be an expository history assignment. Of course, you do want to explain your topic- the history and the who/what/where/when/why, but you also need to discuss what your topic means to American Studies. Some questions to consider (these questions are not exhaustive nor have to all be addressed) when writing your paper are:
Please I need you to follow each direction and these questions when you start writing this paper.
• How does this event/topic relate to past historical and contemporary movements, events, and realities?
• What American values are present in your topic? How does your topic access or relate to these values?
• What is the myth of your topic as opposed to the reality, the truth, of your topic?
• What critiques or analysis do you have about the information surrounding your topic?
• Is your topic correctly or adequately covered by the media? Has there been a public propaganda campaign about your topic? Why?
• What various perspectives exist about your topic? Why were there differing points of view?
Instead of only reading analyses of the topic, see if you can find primary sources (first-hand) depictions of your topic. Analysis is fine! You will just need to find accurate and non-biased sources. You can use biased sources but only if you are using those sources to comment upon their bias. For example, if I was doing Reefer Madness, I would need to find anti-marijuana biased articles or advertisements to demonstrate that there was a crazy propaganda campaign against marijuana. Then I would try to investigate why.
For this project, you will need to write a paper as well as put together a slide show of some sort—Power Point or Google Slides or whatever you use.
Paper parameters:
• MLA or APA format—choose one and be consistent with that style
• 5-6 pages- no weird spaces plus a Works Cited page. Use in-text citations instead of footnotes.
• 4-5 sources. At least 3 of these sources must be from a book or from .edu or a .gov. You can find these texts at the AACC library or from Google Scholar.
• I teach research methods and academic writing—ask me if you have questions. We also have numerous tutoring labs that you can access online.
Slide show parameters: I have decided to use power point for the slide show.
• Make sure you do not copy an existing slide show from the internet—we have software to be able to find these online.
• Create an informative slide show that teaches us, the class, about your topic and analysis.
• Make sure to use visuals- pictures, short video clips, art, or whatever in your presentation.•Keep the text on the slides light- tell us some information but do not write paragraphs. Hit the highlights, provide some quick analysis, but also let the primary photos or images do the talking.
• There is no real limit as to how many slides, but I would say no less than 10.
