Harassment in the Workplace
“Sexual harassment is any unwanted or unwelcome sexual behavior which makes a person feel humiliated, offended or intimidated. Recent personal revelations of sexual abuse and assault in the entertainment industry have been given voice by the #MeToo movement and publicly illustrated how prevalent and damaging such unlawful behaviors can be to mostly female victims.” (Healey, 2018) Sexual harassment in the workplace is growing rapidly in the #metoo movement and in the world of entitlement that we live in. With my twenty plus years of management, this has become one of the trainings that have become more and more important each year.
Types of harassment
Where does the sexual harassment come from in the workplace?
Sexual harassment from coworkers can be vary in different forms such as through emails of inappropriate content to comments on how they look.
Often management will harass their employees and use their position as leverage to keep it quiet.
In today’s world, discrimination is a huge harassment issue.
One’s race is a huge harassment issue in today’s world. Even though the world has evolved and become one, race is still an issue.
Harassment because of gender is still very apparent in the workplace. Often people are promoted over another simply due to their gender.
Physical and verbal harassment are other forms of harassment in the workplace.
Physical harassment does not happen as often as the other forms of harassment but when it does, it is a huge issue.
Verbal harassment is very present in today’s workplace. Ridicule is something that people do to one another to make themselves feel better.

“#MeToo has brought together women from discrete spaces, varied backgrounds and with heterogeneous experiences to articulate three common themes: the ubiquitous nature of patriarchy and sense of male entitlement, which are closely entwined with factors such as class and caste privilege; the strong linkage this has with the way in which working spaces are structured and run; and, finally, a sense that their experiences of sexual harassment, intimidation and assault constitute an important reality that is not just theirs alone to address but one that demands a response from society and the government of the day.”
Entitlement era
Our world today is full of people who feel entitled and that causes harassment in turn.
When people feel entitled, they use any measures they feel necessary to get what they want. This includes sexual harassment and verbal harassment.

Harassment in the workplace is still a very large issue. This includes sexual harassment, verbal, and discrimination. Between the #metoo movement and the generation of entitlement, people are more verbally abusive.
