“This is Your Life” is an exercise that includes two parts: a written summary of your own developmental background, using concepts from the course readings to frame your analysis & a visual representation of your own development, using a tool reviewed in the course.

The following are the objectives of this assignment: 1. To identify normal life events. 2. To apply the key concepts of human development theories to your own experiences, as a precursor to competent assessment of clients in the future. 3. To examine the effects of various life events and relate them to the effects similar life events may have on clients. Assignment Instructions 1. Prior to writing the short analysis of your own development, take some time to reflect on your life and note answers to the following questions. These notes will not be turned in but will inform the paper below that you will turn in. a. When you think back on your life, what were the major positive happenings? These may include happy occasions, special activities, awards, achievements, or graduations. b. What were some of the major negative happenings? These might include illnesses, deaths, accidents, job loss, or significant disappointments. 2. Short Theory Paper-Minimum of TWO full double-spaced pages, using APA format • In this paper, you will apply Erickson’s framework of human development to your own development using the course materials and your own reflections from the above-listed exercise. • Using Erickson’s 8 Stages as a framework, write about your own development to date. • How are the highs and lows in your life expressed? Make any other comments you’d like to about your project. • How has your reading/learning thus far during the semester made you look at your life differently? 3. Create a visual image of your life, incorporating Erick Erickson’s 8 Stages, and the major positive and negative happenings throughout your development to date. You may use any of the following format suggestions OR use be as creative as you like as long as you can scan the final product and attach as an upload for submission. You may use images, words, photos, music, etc. to create a visual of your life. I welcome your creativeness! Have fun with this. It is yours to keep!
