Directions for the Argument Essay
Your argument essay should be 3 to 4 pages and doubled space. Your 4th page should be your Works Cited Page. Your Works Cited page should be in alphabetical order.
You will select your topic from Position Essay Topics.

More Requirements:
Your college level paragraph should be 8 to 12 sentences.
You essay will go through the turnitin database. Your match should be 25% or lower. You can submit once to check your match.
The Argument Essay: Tips
Consider your reader – What do your readers already know about the topic?
Know your purpose – In argument writing, your main purpose is to persuade the reader to agree with you.
Take a strong position, and provide persuasive evidence – Your thesis statement and your topic sentence should clearly show your point of view.
Show that you are trustworthy – Respect you readers by making a serious argument.
Title- Link to thesis be creative
Introduction- gives an overview, personal connection, or start with a question
Thesis statement- topic, discussable point (why) and structure (controlling/topic ideas)
Body Paragraphs- three paragraphs where each paragraph topic sentence is relate to your thesis structure (3 points). Use my student example as a guide. You have to follow directions. You have to follow the structure/paragraph structure. Do not leave your words in bold. You can use my transitional phrases.
Constructing Topic Sentences- Main idea of the each topic paragraph
Building Main Points- minor details, specifics, examples that relate to your topic sentences, thesis, and topic for each topic paragraph
Countering the Opposition- after your claim (3 body paragraphs) provide a one paragraph opposition/conflict/disagreement-research based
Conclusion- Your conclusion should reemphasize the main points made in your paper. You may choose to reiterate a call to action or speculate on the future of your topic, when appropriate. Avoid raising new claims in your conclusion. Provide your overall thought by stating The researcher (you are the researcher) concludes.
To conclude your research essay:
Paraphrase your thesis – 1 sentence
Paraphrase the main ideas (the details) of each body paragraphs (only body paragraphs 2-4)- 3 sentences.
Paraphrase the closing sentences of each body paragraphs (only body paragraphs 2-4)- 3 sentences.
Give a final thought- your final thought is in 3rd person.
Your title should be directly relate to the last 3, 2, or last word of your final sentences. Us my example.
