| Foundations of Education Lesson 8: Assignment Worksheet |
For the Lesson 8 assignment, you will reflect on the lesson readings and learning activities and use one or two pages to answer a set of questions on them. Then, you will select an area of educational reform as the topic of a four- to five-page, double-spaced synopsis paper (see suggested topics below; you may also select a different reform topic). Select a topic that interests you and relate it to your teaching philosophy and practice. Use your notes from the readings, learning activities, research, and additional resources on Screen 3 of the lesson. Be sure to substantiate any statements or opinions with citations from the readings or other sources.
Use good grammar and correct spelling. List your references at the end of the paper. Use headings.

You read several articles and viewed a video on a variety of topics related to reform. Use a paragraph to address your opinion on each of the following topics, being sure to cite the articles, your text, or the video, as appropriate:
- What is the purpose of public schooling and who should control what students learn?
- How does global education impact your teaching practice? (You may choose to select this topic for your paper and if so, this paragraph can be a duplicate of your paper summary or conclusion)
- Can for-profit schools better serve students and communities than public schools?
- (from the online content in this lesson) Do you see indicators of shared leadership in your school? If so, what are they? If not, where do you see potential for shared leadership to develop?
- (from the online content in this lesson) Does individualism positively or negatively impact American education?

Select one of the possible topics listed below and:
- Describe the reform, the problem it is designed to address, and why you chose it. (5 points)
- Discuss the advantages and disadvantages, successes and/or failures of the reform topic you chose. (5 points)
- Describe how the reform topic relates to your teaching practice and how it impacts your teaching philosophy. (10 points)
- Indicate whether views on educational reform that were expressed in your text or in the articles assigned factor into your opinion on this reform topic, and why or why not. (5 points)
