As a pharmacist you were able to interact with representatives of various types of health professions throughout the experience in the hospital, some of whom you got to shadow. Select one profession other than pharmacist to answer the following two prompts:
- How does the chosen healthcare professional’s role complement the overall patient-centered care approach?
RR4. Explain the roles and responsibilities of other providers and how the team works together to provide care, promote health, and prevent disease.
- Reflect on the chosen profession’s limitations in skills, knowledge and abilities in the overall healthcare delivery. Compare and contrast with the pharmacist’s limitations in skills, knowledge and abilities in the overall healthcare delivery as well.
RR2. Recognize one’s limitations in skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Part 2. As a pharmacist reflect on your overall interaction within Interprofessional in the hospital team to answer the following two prompts:
- What were the challenges you have encountered such as conflicts, resistance to recommendations and difficulty integrating into the team? How did you overcome these difficulties? (Provide an example of the utilized resources- e.g. background, experience level, expertise)
CC7. Recognize how one’s uniqueness (experience level, expertise, culture, power, and hierarchy within the health team) contributes to effective communication, conflict resolution, and positive interprofessional working relationships (University of Toronto, 2008).
- Describe a disagreement on prioritizing patient-related problems within the team members. What led to the differences in opinions? How did the team arrive to a consensus?
TT6. Engage self and others to constructively manage disagreements about values, roles, goals, and actions that arise among health and other professionals and with patients, families, and community members.
