Your summary should include the following:
Statement of Key Problem and Your Recommendation: The first paragraph of the cases analysis orients the reader to the problem and the analysis that will follow. The first paragraph should summarize the key problem, discuss alternative courses of action you analyzed, and include your recommended course of action. Regarding the “recommended course of action” part of this first paragraph, you could phrase this as: “Based on ________ analysis, I recommend that _________(person’s name) take the following action: _____ (your suggested action) to address ___ (problem you identify in the first part of this paragraph). This ____ (type of action) will result in _____ (fill in here).
Analysis of Alternative Courses of Action: Identify a minimum of two (2) and no more than four (4) courses of action the person could take to address the key problem. Briefly discuss each course of action – including 1-2 advantages and 1-2 disadvantages – in a way that summarizes the key factors influencing this person/people. Assess the implications of each alternative rather than merely touting “pros” of the recommended alternative. These can be summarized in a table format to save space if desired.
Recommendation: In one paragraph, state your recommended course of action and summarize why it is most appropriate and/or most beneficial. Essentially, you should answer “What should _____(individual’s name) do?” and “Why?’ with a brief explanation of why it makes the most sense.
