ECONOMIC IMPLICATIONS OF INFLOWS OF IMMIGRANTS

The purposive sampling allows the study to expertly select a sample that is representative of the population (Sharma, 2017). In this case, the European Asylum Support Office and Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises will be selected. Both of these groups oversee aspects related to immigrant communities and economics that will provide crucial information for the study. However, to eliminate bias in the selection of the individual officers in the organizations, simple random sampling will be used to select the participants. Sixty participants, 30 from each organization, will be used to gather the required data.”

My second thought is about analyzing the gathered data. As the European Union is a very diverse group of countries with their own legal (incl. immigration laws), economic, demographic, cultural etc. specifics, it might be very difficult to study all of the issues raised in your proposal on a EU level. There are countries with strong immigration communities where the incoming migrants already have a strong network of support “waiting for them” (e.g. Germany, Nordic countries) and they can quite rapidly integrate into the labour market and countries, where the incoming migrants stay only for the necessary asylum procedure time (during which time they are net expenditure for the recipient country as according to the laws of many of such countries they are prevented from entering the labour market until the asylum is granted). As soon as the asylum is granted, they are often on their way further west of north where they become part of the labour market and make a contribution only there.

Thus, my question is whether you take these aspects into account when planning to analyze the economic impact only on aggregated EU level? This might be very difficult to select variables that have equal weight in all EU countries – if studied as a whole.

Another question I have is about the category of migrants that you wish to include in your study. All immigrants in general, or are you planning to select a specific group? Asylants, labour migrants, family members of migrants already settled in the destination country etc.?
