INSTRUCTION:
Implement a DES/Double DES/Triple DES/AES/RSA calculator/demo/solution. You can decide to implement a ransomware demo as well. In other words, you are not limited to any cryptographic algorithm [1]. For the sake of time, two students can collaborate to achieve this objective [2]. However, the evaluation criteria will defer between individual-based and group-based submission.
Note: You can get already implemented solutions from GitHub (this link for instance: https://github.com/topics/cryptography-project), and then deploy it for this project. You will find several other cryptographic projects on GitHub which you can readily implement to further understand how cryptographic mechanisms are used, and or deployed. In addition, you should be able to:
Properly explain the process used to encrypt some files/texts.
Conduct a process to attempt to decrypt them (you should also show how and what was done in your report).
Explain the theory and the principles that underpin every attack you attempted.
Also demonstrate your knowledge/understanding of the codes used for the implementation.
Expected learning outcome:
At the end of this project, each student would have gained hands-on experience of working with cryptographic algorithm and some programming languages. Furthermore, the curiosity of some students will likely be enhanced [3]. Project presentation will be scheduled for the week before the final exams.
Expected Project content
This project should be submitted as a report that contains the following:
A two-paragraph introduction
A two-paragraph description of the algorithm you chose to work on
A one paragraph description of the implementation process
A one section showing your deployment.
A one paragraph discussion of the important of this knowledge
Your referenced sources.
Appendices of some screenshot of your demo/solution/calculator (optional).
Based on the above, the report format should follow:
12-point font size
Garamond font type
1.5 line spacing
Not more than 20-pages of report excluding appendices
IEEE style referencing format, and intext citation (the intext citation and references given in this file is given as example). I will devote one class to explain how to do this.
Presentation Day: To be announced (this is usually one week to the final exam). The slide should be maximum of 15 slides (including any potential demo you may have).
