Culminating Assignment – DESMOS Design

In this assignment, you will use your knowledge of advanced functions and
www.desmos.com/calculator to create a design that is inspired by one of the 17 Global Goals. You
can learn more about the Global Goals at www.globalgoals.org. Your design should be
accompanied by a powerful message or wish for the future.

Your design should:
● Be a UNIQUE design that is your own original work.
● Be creative and have a message that is important and relevant.
● Include at least one of each of the types of functions below.
○ Quadratic function
○ Root function
○ Rational function
○ Trigonometric function
○ Exponential function
Note: Each function must be different from the parent function.
● Include a minimum of 5 different functions.
The Analysis:
● Select ONE of each type of function listed above (8 in total).
For each original function (domain and range NOT restricted):
○ State the equation of the function.
○ State the equation of the parent function.
○ Determine the domain and range (Do NOT include the restrictions used to create
your drawing).
○ Determine the x and y-intercept(s).
○ Determine the equations of any horizontal and/or vertical asymptotes.
Note: You may not be able to determine the x-intercepts or equations of asymptotes for all
combined or composite functions. Do so only if you are able to with what we have learned
in class.
The Report:
● Your report should include:
○ A link to your drawing on Desmos (see Sharing a graph on page 4).
○ The Global Goal and your message or wish for the future.
○ A table that summarizes the properties of each function. An example is shown
below.
● Your report should be well organized.
● Proper mathematical notation must be used throughout the report.
● An equation editor should be used where appropriate.
● All work to determine the domain and range, x and y-intercepts and asymptotes of each
function.
○ This work does not need to be done on the computer. A photo or scan or
hand-written work is okay.
○ It will not be marked for proper form or organization.
○ It should be easy to read and follow.
