Lab Instructions
**Prior to beginning this lab, you should review the Topographic Map Basics.
It will have information that will help you complete the exercises in this lab**
Answer the questions and put them in a word document numbered like they are on the pages.
Part 1
Read/review pages 49-53 in your lab manual. Using the Renovo West GeoPDF included in this lab module, complete problems 1-14 on pages 55-56. Omit problems 10 and 11.
Complete problems 15-20 on page 57 using the Valley Head quadrangle GeoPDF and accompanying map insets included in this lab module. Problems 15, 16, and 17 will require you to use the GeoPDF, while problem 20 will require the use of the map insets, particularly the inset with the UTM grid overlay. Omit problems 18 and 19.
Part 2
Read/review pages 59-62 in your lab manual. On page 63, work problems 1-4. You must show all work for full credit. You will not need a map for these problems.
On page 64, using the Stone Mountain GeoPDF and inset quadrangle, work problems 5-13. Omit problem 10.
On page 65, complete problems 14-17. You will not need a map to complete the problem set on this page. Do not work past page 65.
IMPORTANT**
DO NOT DO PROBLEMS THAT SHOULD BE OMITTED

Full Renovo West Quadrangle_GeoPDF
The map of the Renovo West Quadrangle. You will need the information from the full-sized map to answer questions in Part 1 of your lab.
Full Valley Head Quadrangle_GeoPDF
The map of the Valley Head Quadrangle. You will need the information from the full-sized map to answer questions in Part 1 of your lab.
Full Stone Mountain Quadrangle_GeoPDF
You may not need the full sized map of the Stone Mountain quad, but just in case here it is.
Valley Head_Inset_Without UTM Grid Overlay
This is a “zoomed in” version of the Valley Head quad. This map focuses on a particular area of the topo map. Contour lines have been removed so you can see features more clearly. This map does NOT have a UTM grid overlay – it is included so you can read and/or find features mentioned in the lab.
Valley Head_Inset_With UTM Grid Overlay
This is a “zoomed in” version of the Valley Head quad. This map focuses on a particular area of the topo map. Contour lines have been removed so you can see features more clearly. This map DOES have a UTM grid overlay. Use this map to find the UTM coordinates for the locations listed on #20, pg. 57. Comer Scout Reservation is not on this map inset, so you do NOT have to find the UTM coordinates for that location. You should find the UTM coordinates for the other 3 locations.
Stone Mtn Quad_Inset_Color Map
Use this inset map to solve problems on pg. 64. Finding the graticule is kind of like finding Waldo – it is in the lower left portion of this map and appears as a thin-lined cross. If you have trouble finding the graticule itself, refer to the lat/long coordinates in the lower left portion of the map. Where they meet
