Learning outcomes
1. Demonstrate advanced understanding of strategic human resource management theory and its application in practice.
3. Identify and evaluate different perspectives, value systems and contemporary trends and their impact on strategic HRM.
Task
To prepare for this assessment, please read the following article:
Harbert, T 2020, Workforce planning in the age of Covid, HR Magazine, 1 December.
Covid-19 hasn’t just changed the workplace, it has changed the very fabric of the workforce and the nature of work itself. The challenge for HR departments now is to figure out how to continually assess the changing external and internal situation and respond to the workforce demands of their organisations in an agile and sustainable manner. Simply put, conducting a strategic workforce planning in the post-Covid climate has become more critical for organisations.
This assessment requires you to conduct a post-Covid strategic workforce planning exercise to meet the on-going changing demands for your organisation (or an organisation you are familiar with – e.g., any previous organisation you may have worked for or a well-known organisation).
You are required to begin with an introduction of your chosen organisation and its industry. Furthermore, in terms of the main body of the report, you must focus on conducting a labour market scanning, labour demand forecasting, labour supply analysis and how your organisation plans to balance its labour demand versus supply.
This assessment task is designed to allow you to apply relevant strategic workforce planning concepts to a real-world organisation in a contemporary context. As workforce planning is a key topic in this subject, this assessment will enable you to critically think about the current and future challenges that organisations may face when making post-Covid HRM decisions.
Engaging in strategic workforce planning will provide you with a competitive edge in your current or future workplace and be better prepared to deal with the uncertain and changing nature of the workforce.
The topic of Workforce planning is covered in Week 3 of the subject learning materials and in Chapter 4 of your textbook.

The required word length for this assessment is 2,000 words (plus 10% tolerance).

Your grade will be adversely affected if your response does not acknowledge the sources of information, you have used (please refer to AIB’s Assessment Policy which is available on the AIB website).
